Our Staff

Pastor Bill Dillon

William Dillon, II – Lead Pastor

Pastor Bill served 4 churches in Northeast Ohio before moving to Virginia Beach to pastor here at Tidewater Central in 2001. He has served continuously as a senior pastor in the Church of the Nazarene since 1996. Pastor Bill met and married his high school sweetheart, Jean, in Lisbon, OH, after his dad became the pastor of the Nazarene church where she and her family attended. Bill graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University in 1975 and received a Masters degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in 1994. Jean is a registered nurse and works for Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Pastor Bill and Jean have three daughters & sons-in-law: Kris and Matt Steele of Virginia Beach, Courtney and Zach Olah of Blacklick, OH, and Cassie and Michael Self of Spring Hill, TN. He enjoys being “Papa” to his 7 grandchildren, golfing, hunting, fishing on the Bay, and a good steak from the Outback Steakhouse. Pastor Bill is passionate about seeing people develop into true disciples of Jesus Christ. He says, “I am amazed at how God is using ordinary people to share His love with our world. I want to encourage people of any age to be used by Him. God is still writing our story here at TCN and I’m glad to be part of it.”

Pastor David

David Kriner – Associate Pastor

Pastor David is TCN’s Associate Pastor, serving the church in a variety of ways, as he helps to overlook all areas of ministry. He and his wife Theresa, as well as their seven children, reach out to many people to make them feel welcome at TCN.

13413568_10207903810045498_6049871958910224877_nKay Lynn Perry – Discipleship Pastor

Kay Lynn Perry serves as TCN’s Discipleship Pastor. Ordained in 2008, she has been in leadership in two church plants, one as founding pastor which she led for seven years. She has served in numerous roles in the church, from Nursery Director to Sunday School teacher to Custodian to Pulpit Supply. She and her husband Steve were volunteer missionaries in the Republic of Mauritius in 2004-05. She has her MFA in Theatre Directing and, in her spare time, enjoys directing shows in the local community theatre. During the day, she works at Regent University where she teaches theatre classes. She is an alumna of Eastern Nazarene College where she earned her BA in Communication Arts. She and Steve have been married since 1990 and have two teenagers and a young adult.

14068022_10105540351698262_9021464491502356120_oMadison Freeman – Youth Pastor

Pastor Madi was practically born a Nazarene. She grew up in Northern Virginia in a little rural town, where she learned to appreciate God’s creation, and fell in love with nature. She grew up attending the two local Nazarene churches, Leesburg and Loudoun Valley, where she ended up being called to be their youth pastor/director (Leesburg 7 years, Valley 1.5 years). Pastor Madi was called into ministry at the age of 12 at the district church camp. Growing up, she was an eccentric girl, and didn’t really fit in with any groups, including her own youth groups. When she was 16, she explored different churches and denominations, but discovered that the Church of the Nazarene was the most biblically sound and had ultimately had her heart. When she turned 22, her ministry and calling in life became clear, and she was baptized and sanctified. Her ministry has developed into teaching students that God created them uniquely for His purpose. She married her husband Stuart, September 10, 2011. They live here in Virginia Beach with their 3 fur babies, and are mildly obsessed with their little family.

Pastor Heather

Heather Wells – Children’s Pastor

Heather was raised in the Nazarene church from the time she was born. She attended Kent Church of the Nazarene until she went off to Mount Vernon Nazarene University in 1991. Heather graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in 1995 with a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. After graduation, Heather’s husband Ken, was accepted into Regent University so they moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia in the summer of 1995. While teaching in Virginia Beach City Public Schools, Heather completed her Master’s degree in Special Education from Old Dominion University.Although being a teacher was always something she knew God had called her to, Heather began to feel a new calling. God has given her a special love for children, and she felt God calling her into children’s ministry. Heather became the children’s pastor at Tidewater Central and began her ministry course work through Nazarene Bible College online classes. Heather is currently working on her ordination requirements and is seeking God’s continued direction in her life as to how He would have her serve Him in ministry.

Pastor Walt

Walt Kriner – Shepherding Pastor

Pastor Walt has been on staff at Tidewater Central since September 2013 and he currently serves as our Shepherding Pastor, serving the senior adults and retired pastors in our congregation, as well as mentoring the staff, guiding their ministerial education and district requirements.
RhonaRhona Hands – Worship Director
Rhona Hands has been on staff serving as Worship Director at Tidewater Central since April 2010. She has served in numerous ministries over the years, but her concentration has been on the music programs in the Church of the Nazarene since graduating from Mid-America Nazarene College (now University) with a BA degree in Church Music and Religious Education. Her passion for playing Christian music on the piano was developed in her teen years and she enjoys giving praise & worship to God through her music. Originally from Kansas, she grew up on a farm there, and then moved to New Orleans, Louisiana after graduating from college and began her ministry in a small Nazarene church there. She had gone to New Orleans on a 6 week college work and witness trip and was led to move there and continue working in that church after graduating. In Dec of 2001, she moved from New Orleans to the Tidewater area and began attending & being involved at TCN. Her outside interests include spending time with her sister & brother-in-law who live here also, gardening, reading, & vacationing back to Kansas or taking cruises.

Online – Anytime

If the hectic pace of life is keeping you from regular discipleship, then maybe online discipleship is the answer for you. In this first series of online forums, we will focus on five central themes of your relationship with Christ: covenant, law, grace, incarnation, and forgiveness.

This new format for personal discipleship is being offered online at www.discipleshipplace.org. The message board for this class will only be open to group members here at TCN. Send Pastor David an e-mail at pastordavidkriner@gmail.com for more information on this new discipleship format.

***************************************

As we continue toward our goal of being disciples who make disciples, I hope that you consider getting involved in one of these small group discipleship opportunities. We have been called by God to live in community with one another, share one another’s burdens, and grow together in Christ. I wholeheartedly believe that small group discipleship opportunities like this are the key to achieving our mission.

In HIS Grip,
Pastor David

How Do I Meet People?

Tidewater Central Church of the Nazarene is not a place for spectators. It is a place for disciples to build disciples. Whether you are a five-year old child, a ninety-five year old grandmother, a busy mom, or a businessman with big responsibilities, we want you to be a part of our vibrant church community. Here is how you can learn, serve, and grow at TCN.

Children’s Ministry

Sunday School classes (9am):
Nursery (through age 3)
Preschool-Kindergarten-1st Grade
2nd – 3rd Grade
4th – 6th Grade
Wednesdays in the Children’s Wing (7pm)

Each Sunday morning and Wednesday evening, children get to participate in their own classes. Bible lessons are taught in such a way that every child gets to participate and learn. Each of the class teachers are carefully screened and thoroughly trained in children’s instruction.  Sunday evening is the time for children to practice quizzing for Bible quizzes scheduled throughout the school year for our Virginia Nazarene District. The children’s wing of Tidewater Central is an exciting place to be, with Pastor Heather Wells and her helpers!

… But that’s not all!  There are many more opportunities to meet people!

Discipleship Groups & Sunday School

Often, small groups of people are better able to interact and learn about a topic than larger groups are. For that reason, Tidewater Central Church of the Nazarene has small Bible studies held on Sunday mornings, as well as a variety of times and days throughout the week.

Young Adults

Sunday morning groups (9am):
SHARE in Carpenter’s Cafe
Sunday Morning Dialog in Room 12
Sunday afternoons: Hispanic Bible Study (2pm)
Life can get complicated once you cross that nebulous threshold into adulthood. There are complicated decisions, bigger stakes, serious relationships, and a whole lot more decisions.  Find your niche in one of the styles of groups at TCN.

Youth Ministry

Sunday morning groups (9am):
Jr. High in Room 19 with Mr. Mike
Sr. High in the Youth Room with Mr. Dale

TCN Student Ministries in the Teen Room: Wednesdays at 6:30pm

Pastor Madi Freeman leads the teens in praise and worship and scripture Sunday and Wednesday nights. The teens share a lot of laughs, tears, struggles, and successes, as they study together, pray together, and plan special events together.

Women’s Ministries

Tidewater Central Women’s Ministry gives the ladies in our church family special times of interaction. We have various events through the year including free crafting weekends, paint nights, women’s tea in May, Christmas ornament exchange, and more! During the school year, our ladies also have a weekly Bible study on Thursday mornings. These events provide a refreshing fellowship opportunity for the women in the church.

Married Couples

Even though marriage is one of the most important institutions, it is the one which is under the most attack–internally and externally. Tidewater Central encourages married couples to attend the twice-annual Weekend to Remember events in our area.  TCN has a group rate to financially help out attendees. Lives are being changed, and relationships are being strengthened!

TCN Military Ministries

Our community has a substantial amount of military families, and we want to encourage fellowship and support among them. We host an annual Summer BBQ in July, Cookie Exchange in December, and various other group gatherings during the year, as we continue to grow in our ministry. We also welcome former and retired military as well, knowing that you are a wealth of knowledge that we can’t do without. If you are/were in the military, we invite you and your family to attend and meet other local military families to build friendships and support that will last a lifetime!

Get Plugged into Worship

How do you make people worship?

The short answer is, you can’t. It is humanly impossible to

make people worship. Regardless of the talent of the musician, the mood of the worship service, the expertise of the worship media, or the volume of the music, nobody can make another person truly worship. That being said, a worship leader and worship team should strive to provide an atmosphere that is conducive to worship. A better issue to consider is that of helping

people worship, and providing an atmosphere that is not distracting, but instead allows the Holy Spirit to move in the service.

Do you have a gift to use in this area?

Tidewater Central’s worship music provides a beautiful blend of traditional and contemporary songs to set the tone for Sunday morning worship. If you want to share your gift by joining the Worship Team or providing Special Music for Sunday morning, we will get you in contact with our Worship Director Rhona Hands. There is always room for vocal and instrumental talent at TCN!

We also welcome teens wanting to join in the teen line-up! Rhona can use your talents on Sunday mornings, or Pastor Madi will help you if you’d like to assist on a smaller scale with music for Wednesday evening youth worship.
